Knowing God by Name

Knowing God by name is not about memorizing titles.

It is about encounter.

Throughout Scripture, the names of God reveal His character, His nature, and the ways He makes Himself known in specific moments.

You do not merely say, “God is good.”

You come to know Him as:

Jehovah Jireh when He provides.
Jehovah Rapha when He brings healing.
Jehovah Shalom when He becomes your peace in chaos.
El Roi when He sees you in the places others overlook.
El Shaddai when He proves Himself sufficient.

That is the difference between hearing about God and knowing Him.

This is an invitation to discover how God reveals Himself—name by name.

Yahweh reveals who God is at His core:

Eternal.
Self-existent.
Unchanging.
Dependent on nothing outside of Himself.

Discover the names through which God reveals His character in specific moments of need.

God Reveals Himself in the Tension

Most people want God to change their situation.

But often, God uses the situation to reveal more of who He is.

You do not come to know Jehovah Jireh when there is no need.

You do not come to know El Roi when you already feel fully seen.

You do not come to know Jehovah Rapha when nothing is broken.

You come to know Him in the tension.

In the waiting.
In the uncertainty.
In the places where you have reached the end of your own understanding.

That is often where revelation begins.

Why the Names of God Matter

In Scripture, names are more than labels.

They carry identity, authority, character, and meaning.

When God reveals a name, He is not simply introducing Himself.

He is revealing something specific about who He is and how He makes Himself known.

In Exodus 3:14, when Moses asked what name he should give the Israelites, God answered:

“I AM THAT I AM.”

God did not define Himself by limitation.

He revealed Himself as eternal, self-existent, complete, and unchanging.

He is not becoming.

He simply is.

That means God does not need to become your provider, healer, peace, or guide.

Those things already flow from who He is.

The Names of God Reveal His Heart

Throughout Scripture, God revealed His names in real moments of need.

Not only in comfort, but in lack.

Not only in peace, but in chaos.

Not only in wholeness, but in brokenness.

He revealed Himself as:

Provider in lack
Healer in brokenness
Peace in chaos
Presence in isolation

This reveals something important:

God does not wait for perfect conditions to make Himself known.

He often reveals Himself most clearly in the places where you feel most uncertain.

Where Do You Need to Know Him?

Take a moment and be honest.

Where are you struggling right now?

Is it lack?

Confusion?

Anxiety?

Feeling unseen?

Delay?

The place of your greatest struggle may also become the place of your deepest revelation.

Instead of only asking:

“God, when will this change?”

Ask:

“God, who do You want to reveal Yourself to be in this?”

Prayer

God, reveal Yourself to me in this area of my life.

Help me to see You clearly, trust You fully, and align with Your truth.

Where I feel uncertain, reveal Your faithfulness.

Where I feel afraid, reveal Your peace.

Where I feel unseen, remind me that You are the God who sees.

Where I feel weak, reveal Your sufficiency.

Do not let me walk through this season without knowing You more deeply.
